I had the pleasure to attend the Fall Out Boy/Panic! At The Disco/Twenty-One Pilots show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Wednesday. For those of you who don’t listen to my show (Reggae Among Dude Thursdays 7-9pm), I am also a high school teacher, so I was running late to the show. I was not able to catch Twenty-One Pilots, but did see both Panic! and FOB.

This was my first time to see Panic! And my third time to see FOB. I was not disappointed at all. Panic! played a very interesting mix of songs from their past and future albums. They are releasing Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die on October 8, and I was hesitant about purchasing the album. After seeing their live show, I will definitely be adding it to my library. “Miss Jackson” (featuring Lolo) was my favorite song that they performed. Others from A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out were refreshing to hear, like “I write Sins Not Tragedies.” “Nine in the Afternoon” also got a good reaction and plenty of singing from me and the rest of the crowd. The crowd, by the way, was only in the covered area. No grass seating, which I thought was Pretty Odd. But there were plenty of charismatic and eccentric fans, myself included.

After a brief intermission, Fall Out Boy entered the stage in ski masks trumpeting, what I think is their best song from Save Rock & Roll, “The Phoenix.” Musically, they sounded amazing, and Patrick’s vocals are they best they have ever been. That man can sing! After jumping around from album to album playing all the hits, they went a little deep in their repertoire and played a few acoustic jams in a surprise location in the middle of the audience. This was nice, but should be reserved for smaller venues. However, it did work since the lawn was empty. I just wanted to hear loud, fast music. The acoustic tangent killed my mood a bit, but it was not hard to get back into the swing of things when the “Dance, Dance” beat started to bleed through the drums. Dance we did.

Fall Out Boy flags were waving, dozens of oversized balloons were bouncing around, and the crowd loved every second of it. Some other notable songs included “I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me,” “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark,” “Thnks fr th Mmrs,” and a very short Drake cover. They ended the show like they always do, with “Saturday”. Fall Out Boy has matured and grown up to be a contender with their latest, secretly recorded album Save Rock & Roll, which was released earlier this year. The only disappointment for me was that they did not play “Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today”. Oh well. Next time boys, next time. A solid performance, and if you do not have Save Rock & Roll, I recommend you pick it up and try to catch Fall Out Boy next time they are in town. Peace Out!
