Your favorite straightedge punk band from the mid 90’s is back together, and they’re playing in Austin. That seems to be the case, at least, every November when punks and hypebeasts alike descend on Auditorium Shores for Fun Fun Fun Fest. It’s almost a yearly tradition for me to look at the posted list and immediately call 4 or 5 people to shout about how Judge or Body Count or Run DMC are back together and playing in Austin.

Fun Fun Fun is a festival like no other. It doesn’t have the frantic, sprawling girth of SXSW or the pretense of ACL, nor the claustrophobia of Coachella or Lollapalooza. This is a festival with its roots in punk, and it keeps sight of that well. Last year in their festival guides, the bracket of “best artist at FFF” contained two categories: bands on the Black (punk) Stage and everyone else. This isn’t to say that they don’t have a great variety of artists: headliners this year included everyone from Slayer to MIA to MGMT to Snoop Dogg.

For the next week, I’ll be posting highlights, photos, and stories from the Fest. So take a break on finals and drop by!
