††† (Crosses) long awaited debut LP has finally been released. ††† (Crosses) is an electronic band fronted by Chino Moreno, vocalist of the legendary metal band Deftones. In an interview with Rolling Stone, when asked to describe ††† (Crosses), he stated, “By listening to the music, you can tell that a lot of the influences come from the new-wave era. That was basically the scene that I came up on. I just happened to wind up in a metal band when I was 15. I’ve always had a deep passion for a lot of early electronic and sampled music.” Through this band, Chino is able to express his passion for electronic music and utilize his talent in a completely different aspect. Deftones was one of the first metal bands I ever listened too, and to this day, is still one of my all-time favorite bands. As a fan of Chino’s work, I knew I would dig this album and was interested to hear how his voice would sound in a electronic/pop atmosphere. It surprisingly balances electronic with a heavy alternative rock sound. ††† (Crosses) definitely appeals to a diverse group of music listeners and is worth checking out.
