Concert Review: One Republic

Thousands gathered under the hot Texas sun at the Cynthia Woods pavilion to watch One Republic perform. Before the main attraction, Jamie Scott (co writer of “Story of Our Lives”) and Christina Perri warmed up the crowd, not that it could get much hotter. Christina seemed to be under the weather, she was constantly taking sips out of an over sized mug and even sneezed on stage once, but that did nothing to take away from her surprisingly bubbly nature. She made an effort to really talk to the crowd and keep them engaged.

One Republic blew the crowd away by taking them on a journey of not just their new songs from their latest record, Native, but also from their first hits such as “Apologize” and “Secrets”. Personally, the more love an artist gives Houston, the more I enjoy their show. One Republic definitely won me over by singing a special version of “Good Life”, where they mentioned Houston and by choosing HOUSTON to be the first city they complete the Ice Bucket Challenge. On stage all of the band members had coolers full of water and tons of ice poured all over them. You may see videos of the team doing the same thing at other shows, but Houston was where it happened first. They subsequently nominated Vanilla Ice, the Queen of England, and Coldplay to also complete the challenge, as well as donate $10,000. One Republic also made it a point to let their audience know that they too donated that amount, but what would really be amazing is if they were to donate $10,000 every time they did the challenge on stage.

It was a great show and only the start of this tour. The pavilion was packed, and fans are already eagerly awaiting their return.
