XETAS is a bit of a punk supergroup out of Austin, Texas.  The members (who go simply by D, K, and M) have been featured in other bands such as Debt, Neighbor, the Gory Details, the Gospel Truth, Foreign Mothers, and Brain Attack.  These guys are experienced and it shows.

A-side “The Silence” is an absolutely vicious cut, driven by a Wipers-esque riff until it explodes at the verses in cacophonous guitar noise and shouted mantras.  There’s no chorus, just the repeated line, “Is it easier to die than try, rotting on the vine?”, smashing home the consequences of pensive silence.

B-side “The Knife” is more catchy, in the spirit of other great Texas garage punk/power pop bands Bad Sports, Flesh Lights, or the Marked Men.  However, it still manages to come off as far heavier than those bands generally are.

XETAS are signed to 12XU Records in Austin.  There are plans for a tour this fall, as well as a debut LP to be released early next year.  You can purchase this 7″ on 12XU’s online store here or for download only on iTunes.
