Throwback Thursday: “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”

On this day 7 years ago, a new song was inching its way to the top of the Billboard charts, where it would spend 7 weeks at #1. The Soulja Boy song and dance craze pervaded the US and accordingly received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song; however, it lost out to Kanye’s “Good Life.” It has often been featured in pop culture, including: an episode of Gossip Girl, a trailer for Fast & Furious, and World of Warcraft, to name a few. “Crank That” defined itself as the next synchronized dance floor go-to song. For those of you who are not familiar with the dance or have forgotten it (it has been seven years), here is a guide to teach or remind you of its former glory.
