Throwback Thursday: “Welcome to the Black Parade”

Written by on September 11, 2014

As most Americans vividly remember, this day 13 years ago was a grievous and disheartening one. On this 13th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, celebrities are still paying tribute to the brave men and women who fought and perished while fighting for the lives of themselves and others. In this sentimental time, many people turned to music to help them get through the emotional turmoil. One of these people was a young comic book writer named Gerard Way. On September 11th in 2001, as he was walking to work in New York, Gerard Way watched as the World Trade Center came crumbling down. To help deal with the personal effects of the attack, Way turned to songwriting and music, writing what would eventually become the first song of the band My Chemical Romance. Although the band broke up in March of 2013, they were immensely popular and garnered success with their 2006 album, The Black Parade. Here is a throwback to one of their most famous songs: “Welcome to the Black Parade.”
