Artist Spotlight: The Neighbourhood

Neighbourhood

You have probably heard the song “Sweater Weather” playing on the radio, right? You are also probably familiar with their logo consisting of a black-and-white house flipped upside-down. Well, put those two together and you have American rock band, The Neighbourhood which formed in August 2011. The band is composed of vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott and drummer Brandon Fried. After releasing two EPs, I’m Sorry… and Thank You, the Neighbourhood released their first full length album, I Love You., on April 23, 2013, via Columbia Records. However, on November 28th, 2014, the band released a hip-hop inspired mixtape that took the music industry by complete surprise. Cleverly titled #000000 & #FFFFFF (the HEX color codes for black and white, respectively), the mixtape is very experimental with great production and features appearances by 100s, Casey Veggies, Danny Brown, Raury, Dej Loaf, and more. As a fan of hip-hop music, I really appreciated this project and all the creative production sprinkled into it. The band released a single from the mixtape titled “#icanteven” featuring rapper French Montana, which is picking up pace with old and new fans everywhere.

Interested in hearing more from these Cali boys? Check them out on Spotify or click here to download their mixtape, #000000 & #FFFFFF. If you’re still not convinced, give the track below a listen (my personal favorite off their recent project) and comment below with your thoughts!
