Written by on February 9, 2015

No matter what genre of music you blare through your speakers on the daily, the GRAMMYs is one of the biggest award shows of the year. Here at Coog Radio, we love all types of music and anxiously awaited the announcement of each category’s winner. If you missed a moment from the star-studded night, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Check out some of the biggest moments from the 57th annual Grammy Awards.

Sam Smith Wins FOUR Grammy Awards and Performs
British artist Sam Smith left Staples Center with four Grammy Awards in his hands. He won in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album. If that wasn’t enough, he stepped on stage with R&B singer Mary J. Blige to perform his hit single “Stay With Me” in front of a captivated audience. We applaud you for all your hard work, talent and dedication, Mr. Smith!

Kanye West Almost Repeats 2009 VMAs
When the Grammy for Album of the Year was awarded to American musician Beck, the audience (and almost all of America) was shocked. Beyoncé, Sam Smith, and other talented artists were nominated in this category. When Beck had taken the stage to accept the award, Kanye West stepped on stage and almost makes a repeat of his 2009 VMAs Taylor Swift speech interruption. Thankfully, Kanye let Beck finish this time.

Ariana Grande Delivers a Stellar Performance
Even though she did not walk away with a Grammy, Ariana Grande switched to a long plum-colored dress (from her all-white Versace gown on the red carpet) for her performance of “Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart.” Beautiful warm colors swelled around her, and after she killed her high notes and ended the song, she clasped her hands of her mouth — almost in disbelief. We were just as shocked as you were, Ariana! The song is featured on Grande’s My Everything which was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Usher Honors Stevie Wonder
We all know and appreciate that Usher is the man when it comes to tributes to famous artists. The R&B sensation started with a performance of “If It’s Magic” from Stevie Wonder’s classic Songs in the Key of Life album, joined at the end of the song by Stevie himself on harmonica. An odd choice, as there are much bigger hits from that album and Wonder’s career, but Usher did it justice. A woman playing the harp onstage perfectly accompanied the vibe of Usher’s performance and with Wonder only playing the harmonica for a few seconds, the audience responded with a roaring standing ovation.

Kanye West, Sir Paul McCartney and Rihanna Perform “Four Five Seconds”
The trio took the stage to perform their latest single “Four Five Seconds” at the Grammys Sunday night and it was awesome. Their performance got nearly everyone in the auditorium on their feet. Even Kim Kardashian, who didn’t stand for any other performance, was on her feet, clapping and singing. Earlier on the red carpet, Kanye explained that he’s the executive producer of Riri’s upcoming album, which the track will be featured on. He also revealed that when she heard it, she just had to have it on her own album and we can definitely understand why.

Beyoncé, John Legend and Common Close Out the Night
To close out the night, Houston’s very own Beyoncé sang “Take My Hand Precious Lord,” which was first introduced to her through her mother. She appeared as angelic as can be in a white gown, surrounded by a choir of men in all white outfits as well. It was a simple and subtle performance that was filled with meaning and amazing vocals. At the end of her performance, Bey introduced John Legend and Common, who performed their song “Glory” from the movie Selma. As always, Legend killed every note of the performance and Common spit real truth with the eye-opening track. If this wasn’t the best way to end the night, then call me crazy!
