Mozart’s Sister’s “Salty Tear” Video Will Make You Shed a Tear for 90’s Nostalgia

In an era filled with “Transformation Tuesdays,” “Throwback Thursdays,” and “Flashback Fridays,” the concept of nostalgia is poignant and visceral in our everyday life. With that said, it’s appealing to us when we can see this experience before our eyes in multiple mediums all at once. Enter, Mozart’s Sister, and her new video “Salty Tear.” She hails from Canada and is one of my favorite pop artists of this decade. I talked about her in my “Top 20 Albums of 2014” post and if you follow me on social media, you will see her name pop up AT LEAST once a week. Her blend of biting socially-aware lyrics and synth-pop prowess are both exciting and progressive for a market that is littered with wannabes and copycats and this video is a prime example. It features her take on 90s Pop-R&B not only on the song itself, but the graphics and imagery in the video. From what she’s wearing, to the color schemes, to her cameo in the TLC classic “Waterfalls” and her nod to Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be” video as well. It’s safe to say, “only 90s kids will get this.”

Tell me what YOU think of the video and my homegirl Mozart’s Sister. Do you get nostalgic weekly? Monthly? Let me know in the comments below and continue the discussion by sharing this on social media!
