The Supreme Court ruled made a groundbreaking decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide Friday. The ruling came right in time for many LGBT pride celebrations happening around the country, including Houston. Pride Houston hosted their annual LGBT pride celebration at a new location Downtown on Saturday. With a festival starting in the morning and going until the evening, record crowds showed up to support and celebrate the SCOTUS decision. By Saturday afternoon, thousands had already started claiming their spots for the evening parade.

From rainbow-colored umbrellas to bandanas, almost every attendee was decked out in their pride gear with smiles on their faces. The energy at the event was electric and you could feel the joy taking over Downtown Houston. Music blared from the Bud Light stage near the gates of the festival, while people gathered in the wading pool outside City Hall.

The evening Pride parade lit up Downtown Houston with thousands of local LGBT organizations coming together to celebrate the big day. Cheers from bystanders and supporters were heard from all over the city, along with confetti and glitter taking over the night sky.

As a first-timer at this huge event, I was pleased with the amount of support Houston’s LGBT community has and will receive in years to come. The progress our great nation has made is monumental and brings us hope for more positive change in the future.
