Artist Spotlight: Future

Written by on July 21, 2015

Future just may be the most beloved trap music artist ever. Thinking of names from today such as Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz or even the newer wave of trap music artists in Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan, and Pusha-T, they don’t seem to measure up to the following Future has gained in the last two years. Trap music can be described as heavy and loud beats with 808 drums and sirens and a whole bunch of other noise. It is lyrics leaning on drug references left and right, and how these artists made a living as they grew up. But enough of all of that, let’s talk about Future.

Future is from Atlanta, Georgia, a hot bed for not only trap music but also hip-hop in general. To keep it simple, I could say Future signed a deal with recording company Epic Records, which got him high acclaim and attention from the likes of XXL Magazine and The Fader. He then went onto make XXL’s freshman list in 2012 and dropped his debut album, “Pluto,” in April that same year. As Future’s buzz grew in 2012, so did his mainstream recognition and fanbase. His first single titled “Magic” featuring T.I. was his first to grace Billboard’s Top 100.

As the years passed, Future began to rack up guest appearances on albums and mixtapes including artists such as Drake, Meek Mill, Andre 3000 and even Kanye West! But so far, no year has treated Future any better than 2015. From the release of his first mixtape “Monster, which released in October of 2014, Future has not missed on any of his mixtapes. Songs from his projects including “Beast Mode and his latest ‘tape “56 Nights” have been streamed well over a million times on Soundcloud. You’d be hard pressed to go to ANY type of club or party and not hear his hits like “March Madness,” “F**k Up Some Commas” and “Lay Up.”

You can always argue which artist has the best fans or even who has the most. However, after these projects Future dropped, he now has a mass following of fan support that gathered quicker than I’ve ever seen. Fans and even well established artists in hip-hop have agreed that he’s arguably the hottest rapper in the game. He now has the support. He now has hit songs. He now has a Hive!

Click the individual mixtape titles above to download them from Datpiff.com. Also, Future’s highly anticipated album “Dirty Sprite 2” released this week as well. You can click the title to be directed to iTunes to purchase. Enjoy!
