Drake Won’t Stop Dropping Heat?

Written by on July 30, 2015

With highs in the 100s and lows in the 80s, this summer in Houston has felt like nothing short of a trip to hell. If that wasn’t enough, Drake mercilessly keeps sending in heat waves from Toronto- dropping a total of five new songs, four of them in this week alone.

On July 11, Drake released the song “Sweeterman” on the first episode of OVO Sound radio.

This week, in the wake of rapper Meek Mill accusing Drake of ghostwriting, Drake released two diss songs,”Charged Up” and “Back to Back,” directed at Meek Mill. If you’re not caught up with the Drake/Meek Mill drama, you’ve kinda been living under a rock, but it’s okay because you can catch up here.

Some people have speculated that Drake sounds extremely nonchalant in this song, supposing that the saying “Charged Up” is sarcasm and he’s not taking Meek Mill very seriously. Others thought it was a warning shot and the worst is yet to come. What do you think?

Without a proper response from Meek, Drake released a freestyle track “Back to Back” on July 29.

Drake makes it clear that he is playing 0 games at this point- taking so many shots at Meek Mill.

Some highlights:

  • “This for y’all to think that I don’t write enough / They just mad cause I got the midas touch”
  • “You love her, then you gotta give the world to her/ Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?”
  • “I know that you gotta be a thug for her/ This ain’t what she meant when she told you to open up more / Yeah, trigger fingers turn to twitter fingers/ Yeah, you gettin’ bodied by a singin’ n—a”

A nice touch to the freestyle is the cover art, which is a picture from 1993 of Joe Carter, a baseball player for the Toronto Blue Jays (Drake’s hometown), yelling after hitting a home run that beat the Philadelphia Phillies (Meek’s hometown).

Along with those two songs, Drake also released”Hotline Bling” and “Right Hand” on OVO Sound Radio.

Thanks, Drake.
