Rae’s Raves: Hello…It’s Me.

Written by on November 21, 2015

So these last few days have been a crazy whirlwind for the music industry. Especially so when the hottest boy band and the hottest “bad boy” of the year release an album on the same exact day and Adele releases a new single that causes complete chaos. Are they trying to ruin us?

First of all, it was going to be extremely impossible to not mention how fire Justin Bieber’s new album Purpose is. Say what you want about the Biebs, but this album has hits. After narrowing my favorites down (the deluxe edition makes it so much harder) to “All In It,” “The Feeling” and”Mark My Words”…. “Love Yourself” takes the number one spot. When I heard it the first time, I knew it was going to be the one I played nonstop the most. In addition to the album’s release, Bieber also created a dance short film titled Purpose: The Short Film that coincides with each of the album’s songs. Check out the video for “Love Yourself” down below!

Be sure to check out the other videos that are apart of the dance short film featuring some of my favorite dancers (*ahem* Ian Eastwood and Megan Batoon) and let us know what you think! Also, to celebrate the release of Purpose, Justin Bieber will be at the Toyota Center on November 19 for An Evening With Justin Bieber! He will feature Purpose: The Movement, have a live Q&A session and could potentially perform a few songs!

Alessia Cara’s debut album Know-It-All released last week along with Purpose, and it’s in heavy rotation as well. Although she admitted to just learning the song moments before recording, Cara’s acoustic rendition of “Love Yourself” is everything I needed in a cover. Also, let’s pretend you’re shocked that Cara didn’t completely nail it! Check it out for yourself!

Cara also just announced that she will be on tour early next year to promote Know-It-All and I’ve claimed my spot in the venue already! Be sure to check out her music and you can now purchase Cara’s debut album Know-It-All right here, oooooh here, oooohh here! 😉

Moving on….

For all of you Hoodie Allen fans (who just announced a new tour yay!), I’m still on my Call Me Karizma kick that was instilled when I attended Max Schneider’s show a few weeks ago. Karizma’s song “See” is probably my most played strictly because of that first verse: “All I hear is ‘follow dreams’, but all I see are lies and doubts.” Same Karizma, same. Unfortunately, his music is not on Spotify as of yet but Karizma recently announced his plans to release new music “soon” and that it will be available on Spotify! Until then, jam out to his soundcloud!

Remember that time Missy Elliot performed alongside Katy Perry at the Superbowl and everyone who lived under a rock (not you, though) thought she was an up and coming artist? Well, Missy is back to remind everyone that she can still bring it like she did in the ’90s! I’m serious…she totally delivered with her classic visuals and style that we loved her for back then! Watch Missy Elliot’s first video in seven years down below. It’s like she never left!

You can download Missy Elliott’s new single “WTF (Where They From)” ft. Pharrell Williams now! The last track I heard from Missy Elliot was when she was featured on Demi Lovato’s “All Night Long” from her Unbroken album in 2011. But to think that Missy was a new artist is something unfathomable.

Speaking of Ms. Lovato, it took .5 seconds for the media to kill the buzz on the new track from Adele so Demi totally deserves recognition for going in on her cover of Adele’s “Hello” at a performance in Seattle. The girl saaang like she wrote it! But are we really surprised? See for yourself!

OK. I know I threw a lot at you all at once. So here’s what you do next. Listen to the jams I’ve provided in the playlist below, think about it…and let us know in the comments what you think about the topics I covered today. What’s your favorite Purpose track? Are you interested in checking out Alessia Cara on tour? Did Demi do Adele justice? Leave us a comment and let us know!
