Chicago’s very own, Twin Peaks, are coming to Austin for the annual Levitation Festival (formerly the Austin Psych Festival) on April 29th- May 1st at the Carson Creek Ranch just outside of Austin. If you’ve never heard of Twin Peaks, you’re missing out, big time, here’s why.

The garage rock quintet evokes memories of The Replacements and 60’s rock n’ roll while fitting neatly into the template of their contemporaries like FIDLAR, Wavves, Ty Segall, and fellow Chicagoan’s The Orwells, whom the band sees as their “little brothers.” The band members met in high school and went the DIY route for their debut album Sunken, which they recorded on the Macbook software, Garageband. The band’s songs generally fall into one of two categories, one being the melancholy love ballads and the other being balls to the wall garage punk. They’re whimsical tunes are the one’s I personally admire the most, namely “Irene” and “Baby Blue” off of their debut. In 2014, the band dropped their sophomore album Wild Onion, and it was met with generally positive reviews. The band is now working on their third studio album, Down in Heaven, which is sure to show that the band isn’t letting the growing pains of an increasing catalog of tunes and increasingly large tours slow down their creative process.

Twin Peaks was most recently in Houston on tour with Wavves at the House of Blues, helping the Nathan Williams’ led band promote their fifth studio album, aptly titled V. Twin Peaks also played a number of shows in Austin at South by Southwest, during spring break, if you missed the chance to see Twin Peaks in Houston back in November or during spring break at South by, you need not worry, because they’ll be just a couple of hours away at the Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas again. The band will be some of the first to play the Levitation stages at this years festival, as they will be performing on Friday, April 29th. I personally have not had the chance to see these guys live but everyone I’ve met that has seen them says they’re a super-energetic fan-friendly band, so it sounds like a safe bet that the band from the Windy City will be well worth checking out.

Below you will find links to my favorite Twin Peaks songs as well as their newest single, “Butterfly,” from the forthcoming album, as well as links to Levitation’s website and tickets. Thanks for reading, I hope you just found yourself a new favorite band, and I hope to see you in Austin for Levitation!
