While September is usually a lukewarm month for releases, however, this weekend offers a few new major films hitting theaters.

“The Magnificent Seven“- Antoine Fuqua’s new film features stars like Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio and more. The film is a remake of the 1960 classic staring Steve McQueen.

Set in the late 1800s soon after the Civil War, the small town of Rose Creek is under attack from industrialist Bartholomew Bogue. The town’s residents quickly recruit the help of seven bandits, a bounty hunter Sam Chisolm, a gambler Josh Faraday, a sharpshooter Goodnight Robicheaux, a tracker Jack Horne, an assassin Billy Rocks, a Mexican outlaw Vasquez, and a Comanche warrior Red Harvest, to defend their town while they plan for the expected conflict. Rated PG-13.

STORKS“- Nicholas Stoller and Doug Sweetland direct this animated film that features the voices of Jennifer Aniston, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Samberg, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele and Danny Trejo.

Storks used to deliver babies. Now, they transport packages for a worldwide internet trade corporation. Junior (Andy Samberg), the corporation’s top stork, gets in trouble when the Baby Factory creates an unsanctioned baby girl. Frantic to deliver this baby, Junior fights to make the baby delivery before his boss discovers his plan. Rated PG.

Queen of Katwe“- Mira Nair directs this sports biopic that stars newcomer Madina Nalwanga, David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o.

The film traces the true journey of Ugandan chess phenomenon Phiona Mutesi (Madina Nalwanga) from the slums of Katwe, where she is required to leave any semblance of education to help her family pay for rent and food. But through an outreach program for youth run by Robert Katende (David Oyelowo), she discovers a passion for chess that quickly capitulates her into stardom. Lupine Nyong’o also co-stars as Mutesi’s watchful mother, who fears that her daughter’s visions of becoming a chess champion are unrealistic interruptions from her real life. Rated PG.
