Day for Night Artist Spotlight: Travis Scott

Written by on November 30, 2016

Travis Scott, the son of a drummer and grandson of a music scholar, has been producing beats since he was a teen. Born in Houston, this American musician has been excelling rapidly in his career, satisfying a rapidly growing fan base.

When he was 17, Scott partnered up with his friend Chris Holloway and formed The Graduates. They released their first EP in 2009 on Myspace. Later on, Scott took a leap of faith and dropped out of college to pursue his music full-time.

As a rising icon in the hip-hop industry, Scott signed a record deal with Epic in 2012. In November of the same year, he signed a deal with Very GOOD Beats as an in-house producer, after appearing on the label’s debut compilation album Cruel Summer.

Subsequently in April 2013, it was announced he signed with T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint. He released his first full-length project, a mixtape titled Owl Pharaoh, in May 2013.

Scott dropped his second mixtape, Days before Rodeo, in August 2014 prior to releasing his debut album, Rodeo, in September 2015. One of his chart-topping songs was “Antidote.”

Scott’s rapid success can be justified by his take on music. In an interview with Complex last year, he said, “My music isn’t rappity-rap-rap-rap. I base my music off of lifestyle and emotion—that’s why my music has a lot of chords, even if it’s a hard-ass joint. I consider myself an artist, which is, like, the most played term, but I believe it.”

His newest album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, was just released this past September and debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200.

Don’t miss Scott’s performance during Day for Night on Sunday, December 18. Check out his Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages for frequent updates.
