ACL Artisit Spotlight: Parquet Courts

Written by on September 27, 2018

New York rock band Parquet Courts are coming to crash ACL 2018. As a long time fan of the band, I will let you know now right away that this is a definite go-to set. Coming off the release of their sixth studio album earlier this year, Wide Awake!, Parquet Courts are on fire once again. They are back doing what they do best which is cranking out their own brand of 80’s American punk from the dance-inducing art punk to the riot-causing garage rock. Lyrically, Parquet Courts have some of the most thought-provoking lyrics out of the entire indie music scene in my personal opinion. Philosophical in approach, Austin Brown and Andrew Savage write ballads on southern racism to garage anthems of emotional captivity in relationships. Parquet Courts have something for everyone.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this band twice in Houston. Their inter-song banter is a definite highlight next to their music, of course. Even with their punk background, there is a certain maturity that keeps the shows leveled, but the crowd will always let loose when those chords hit. Since three of their members are from Texas (Brown being from Beaumont and the Savages from Denton), they always receive a warm welcome. Austin City Limits will be no different. The play both weekends on 10/7 and 10/14 between 3:00-4:00 at Barton Springs.
