ACL Artist Spotlight: Lizzo

Written by on July 10, 2019

Austin City Limits is back with another year of fantastic, diverse music and unique talent with something for everyone! With a fresh lineup including Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, Kacey Musgraves, and many more, you won’t want to miss this year’s festivities. Deep in the heart of Texas, ACL is the biggest music festival in the South with a stellar record of selling out year to year. Coog Radio is here to give you the scoop on some of the artists worth highlighting on this year’s lineup.

I’m sure we’ve all heard the iconic Lizzo lyric (or at least seen on it on some Instagram captions), “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that b*tch.” Turns out Lizzo is totally that b*tch, and she’s just getting started. Lizzo is from our very own Houston, Texas,  and she’s definitely been putting Houston on the radar and feeding into the stream of successful artists coming out of Texas recently. Lizzo started out rapping in Southeast Houston and began joining various talent groups and pursuing her art through her teenage years. Struggling with body and self-image issues, she decided to make self-love and acceptance one of the main themes of her music.

Having toured with artists like Haim and Florence + The Machine, Lizzo’s talent didn’t go unnoticed. Signed to Atlantic Records, Lizzo’s first hit single “Juice” made waves earlier this year as she began gaining the attention of music fans across the country. Lizzo makes it point to stay real and authentic through all she does — supporting diverse representation and body types as well as promoting self-love and LGBT rights, Lizzo is giving us what we need right now. She delivers perfectly — from her vocals and lyrics, to her music videos, to her vivid personality — and she does it all her own way. After playing an energetic set at Coachella earlier this year, she’s definitely on the radar as one of the biggest artists emerging in 2019 and you won’t want to miss your chance to see her this fall as she’s back in her home state of Texas.

Lizzo is joining an amazing lineup of talent at ACL this fall, playing on both Sundays (October 6 and 13) of the festival alongside Banks, Kacey Musgraves, and more talented women. Celebrate yourself this fall with a trip to Austin and the experience of this iconic festival. With weekend one 3-day passes already sold out, you won’t want to miss your chance to grab 1-day tickets or weekend 2 tickets while they last!
