ACL Artist Spotlight: Rosalía

Written by on August 21, 2019

Austin City Limits is back with another year of fantastic, diverse music and unique talent with something for everyone! With a fresh lineup including Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, Kacey Musgraves, and many more, you won’t want to miss this year’s festivities. Deep in the heart of Texas, ACL is the biggest music festival in the South with a stellar record of selling out year to year. Coog Radio is here to give you the scoop on some of the artists worth highlighting on this year’s lineup.

Rosalía is joining the talent at ACL this year all the way from Spain — this Spanish singer has been making major moves this year. She blew up recently after collaborating with J Balvin and James Blake. With these two different genres and fan bases, Rosalía has definitely been expanding her audience and reaching new ears. Rosalía was a unique artist from her start though. With a degree from Barcelona’s Catalonia College of Music, she has traditional roots in Flamenco but manages to put a vibrant and youthful twist on this traditional genre. Reviving Flamenco for younger listeners, Rosalía strikes a perfect balance between vintage and modern. She says, “Young people right now don’t connect flamenco to something old, they see it as something cool.

Nobody else has this music. It’s a style that only exists here, and it’s an important part of our culture, part of our very way of expressing ourselves.”

Considering herself an experimental artist, it’s only natural that there have been confirmed collaborations with Rosalía and producers ranging in genre from Pharell to Arca. Another factor that sets Rosalía apart is her versatile talents and how she completely creates her image and sound herself. She tells Pitchfork, “I compose, produce, arrange—I don’t just perform. I’m playing keyboards, playing bass, doing everything.” No surprise with her solid background in music, Rosalía is a woman of many talents. With her exciting Coachella performance this year setting a high bar for her stunning live performances, you won’t want to miss a chance to see Rosalía.

Joining an amazing lineup of talent at ACL this fall, Rosalía is playing on both Sundays (October 6 and 13) of the festival alongside Lizzo, Banks, Kacey Musgraves, and more talented women. Celebrate yourself this fall with a trip to Austin and the experience of this iconic festival. With weekend one 3-day passes already sold out, you won’t want to miss your chance to grab 1-day tickets or weekend 2 tickets while they last!
