Buzzfest Artist Spotlight: Live

Written by on October 4, 2019

Attention rock connoisseurs, Buzzfest is quickly approaching for their 35th festival. Hosted by 94.5 The Buzz, it’s coming to the Cynthia Woods Pavilion this October with giants like Godsmack and Bush, both rocking out for a fifth time on the Buzzfest stage. That’s right, a fifth time.

The Houston festival has been catering to Rock fans since 1995, only five years after the opening of the Cynthia Woods Pavilion. Buzzfest’s Inaugural year saw Bush, Our Lady Peace, and The Nixons, among others, take the stage and set a rock precedent that is still followed today. Twenty four years later, some of the same Veterans like Bush and Our Lady Peace are coming home again accompanied by other contemporary talents like Atlas Genius and Meg Myers.

Throughout the years, Buzzfest has featured bands such as Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, and other greats. With the event drawing closer, it could be helpful (if not necessary) to dive into the specifics that make this year’s buzzfest even more special than years previous.

Joining Buzzfest for the first time is Pennsylvania rock band, Live. Despite it being their inaugural appearance at the rock festival, they are far from rookies. Internationally known for their 1994 album Throwing Copper, Live have sold more than 22 million albums. Although they were together since the early 1980’s as high schoolers, the band didn’t adopt their current name until 1991 when they were officially signed to Radioactive Records. Soon after, under the guidance of Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison, Live would record their EP titled four songs and subsequently their debut album, Mental Jewelry. On March 8th 1997, following their 1994 success, Live’s Secret Samadhi immediately peaked on Billboard’s top 200.

Putting Live’s formal accomplishments aside, it is certain they are an outstanding band with talent that has won them recognition the past two decades. Ed Kowalczyk’s unique vocals in unison with Chad Taylor’s powerful guitar, Chad Gracey’s intoxicating drums, and Patrick Dahlheimer’s grand bass leave no doubt that Live belong at Buzzfest.

With over 25 years of experience, it is surprising they have not joined the Buzzfest family sooner. For this reason, having Godsmack, Bush, and Live together in one place makes it impossible to not attend this year’s festival. Whether on the seats or on the lawn, watching the sunset while good music fills the air cannot be beaten. That being said, the only way to be disappointed is by not buying tickets for October 26th.
