Spooky Songs For The Season

Written by on October 23, 2019

Greetings Coogs, and welcome to the October Endgame. You’ve survived thus far, braving ghouls and ghosts and failing GPAs. You deserve a soundtrack to your adventures, and the Coog Radio Blog Team is coming in clutch. Here are some of our favorite spooky songs, curated just for you. Please enjoy.

Rooster by Alice In Chains

As a child, Alice In Chains songs kind of freaked me out. Layne Staley’s vocals specifically would make me uncomfortable. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I actually got into their music a lot more. The Jar of Flies album cover still kind of freaks me out (ironically it’s my favorite AC album.) However, the song  Im choosing for this is probably their biggest hit, rooster, which appeared in a really early supernatural episode where Sam and Dean are burning a set of bones to get rid of a ghost. “Ain’t found a way to kill me yet eyes burn with stinging sweat” The lyrics plus Staley’s voice and the fact 9 year old me was watching the supernatural episodes that were actually creepy makes Rooster my favorite spooky song.

Don’t Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult & Zombie by The Cranberries

The guitar solos in this song always put chills down my spine.

This song was always one to rock too.

Monster by Ghost Town

I don’t know why it is that I feel like aggressively destroying things when I listen to this song, or why I always feel like wickedly smiling every time I hear screaming, but for whatever the reason, I absolutely adore this song. It’s got the same alternative vibes that I had grown to love when I was younger, and it’s loud enough for me to be able to ignore my responsibilities, so that’s a double.

Feed My Frankenstein by Alice Cooper

It’s one of my favorite spooky Halloween type song but also with a different meaning.

-Larsen Veldman

Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus

It is a slow burning atmospheric tone. I think it’s a good mood setter for the spooky hours.
