After the success of Raven in the Grave, The Raveonettes are back, celebrating the release of their record Observator with a new video. “The Enemy”, just as the rest of Observator, has the Danish duo returning to form, coating new and and enticing guitar melodies with their signature fuzzed-out sound. Citing The Doors as a primary inspiration, The Raveonettes recorded the album in the legendary Sunset Sounds studio, working in the same space where The Doors recorded some of their best work.
But if anything captures the psychedelia of the Lizard King and The Doors, it’s Imogen Prado’s video for “The Enemy”. Superimposing Super 8 shots vivid with color onto the band as Sharin Foo breaks the fourth wall with a piercing stare, it’s almost as if the reverb-soaked number is spilling onto the film. So as the University of Houston comes under rainfall, The Raveonettes send a mixed message; Stay dry, but keep the signal drippy.
Observator is out now on Vice Records.
