The money, the cars, the clothes, and the h**es, have all become typical topics in this game that we call rap. Don’t get us wrong, we love this music! But dropping five hundred stacks on a Tuesday at the strip club… A little too rich for our blood. Sometimes, we long to hear something more […]

Adventure, aptly named, feels like a human journey. “La Lune” addresses the melancholic proposition of aging, featuring vocalist Dan Smith from the band Bastille. “OK” is an anthem to happiness with no labels or cause- simply the feeling. “Pay No Mind” featuring Passion Pit, an addictive banger, encourages independence and love. From beginning to end, Adventure […]

In the modern age, women still have trouble being respected and equalized in various professions and cultural importance across the board. However, I feel in music women are the front runners and ground-breakers leading the way for the zeitgeist and trends of each decade. This is even more potent when they stand together and use […]

SO, I’m sure y’all are all sick of hearing of Kendrick Lamar… Right? Right? NAAAHHHH probably not though! I’m more than sure you have seen or at least heard of this crpytic tweet that Kendrick put out on March 24: Whoaaa, right? Kendrick telling us his location AND telling us to meet him there? There’s […]

It’s been about two weeks since the infamous Kendrick Lamar released his different, yet critically acclaimed album, “To Pimp A Butterfly.” If you haven’t had a chance to listen his new album or haven’t even heard of it, check out the Coog Radio album review for it here and find out what all the hype has been all about.  Just […]

TDE signee Schoolboy Q lit the TDECU Stadium stage on Saturday night with his appearance at UH’s annual Frontier Fiesta. Atlantic Records artist PJ opened up the show with her set of R&B and classic songs. She got the crowd warmed up and ready to go with her single “Nickels and Dimes,” which talks about […]

If you’ve been on Twitter lately, you’ve probably seen the humorous tweets featuring Chance The Rapper such as: Have you seen the actual video from which that clip is from though? It’s featured in Action Bronson’s music video “Baby Blue,” a song from his newly released album, “Mr. Wonderful.” In  the video Bronson and Chance […]

I met with Handsomebeast, a Houston band who classifies themselves as a funky-space-rock-bump-n-grind genre, at Spider House this past weekend in Austin. In a world where everything is classified as indie rock it was refreshing that a sub-category was provided. The boys grew up in the same part of town and all ended up at Loyola […]

Houston native rapper and producer Travi$ Scott held the homecoming performance of his Rodeo Tour at House of Blues on Monday night, alongside rapper Young Thug. According to an Instagram post from early Monday afternoon, Scott wanted this night to be the most legendary city on the tour; we showed him exactly that.

Aside from the big artists at SXSW, the festival was primarily created to support the local musicians as well as the up and coming artists. Hiatus Kaiyote  is a neo-soul group from Melbourne, Australia who made their first debut at SXSW. The group performed at Parish Hall venue on 6th street, an intimate setting at the end […]

Country superstar, Blake Shelton, broke another record when he performed for the fifth time at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Shelton’s 75,016 paid attendees helped place his show in front of other performers, such as Pitbull and Florida Georgia Line. With this attendance record, Shelton holds three positions within the All-Time Top Twenty performances […]

Waking up on Friday and hearing rain was instantly a downer for me. The week had been so beautiful and I never check the weather so I was taken by surprise. I hate being in the rain! My schedule since arriving has been all business so I didn’t have a chance to do what I […]

As if one set wasn’t enough, Doomtree performed twice on Thursday night at Karma Lounge. The official SXSW showcase was packed both times that Doomtree took the stage. The collective hip hop group took Karma and turned it into a straight party. Doomtree is comprised of seven members, and each had a hand in giving […]

The mtvU Woodie music festival and awards show highlights the year’s top fresh artists who made it big on the charts as well as the iconic musicians who have stayed on top. The day started off as a festival with a number of performances from Robert DeLong and Ty Dolla $ign as the openers. Although the […]

When I found out that Dustin Kensrue, front man of post hard-core band Thrice, would be doing solo sets at this year’s SXSW I lost my mind. I was bartending on a slow Monday and had one bar regular sitting at the bar. I was looking up all of the performing artists and when I […]

The biggest show, attendance wise, that SXSW has had to offer was Spoon this past Thursday at Auditorium Shores. The show was free for wristband and badge holders and they were handing out guest passes for the general public. The park was filled; there were pets and kids in the mix, so it was the […]

I was relieved when I saw there was not the line I had expected for Brooklyn rockers TV on the Radio. I was thrilled that I was able to sneak next to the side rails and get very close to the stage. I was beyond ecstatic when I saw that Stubb’s was still serving delicious […]

I met with the four man indie-pop band from California yesterday in an alley behind Buffalo Billiards off 6th and Brazos. We escaped to the alley since inside 101.5, Austin’s indie and alternative station, had artists in and out for live interviews. Needless to say, the place was packed and very loud. We were not […]

The rumors of free drinks and food are true and alive at SXSW. Copyright Alliance hosted a charity event last night at El Sol Y La Luna called Keep America Creative. All you had to do was RSVP, which I did at the door, and I was in for a free show, unlimited beer and margaritas.

International superstar, Ariana Grande, rocked the Houston Rodeo with an electric performance that left over seventy-five thousand screaming fans speechless. Grande, which is also Spanish for ‘big,’ performed to a full house that helped her make Rodeo history.
