Artist Spotlight: Seth Kay

Written by on January 28, 2015

If you’re looking for new music to vibe to this weekend, give Vancouver artist and producer Seth Kay a listen. Kay released his debut EP entitled “See U In LA” on August 28, 2014. Since then, he has released a video for “Direction” and is currently preparing to drop visuals for “W S U P” and “Fux Wit U” in the near future. Although his music can be extremely personal at times, Kay maintains an aura of mystery; his tracks often dark and R&B-driven with a southern bounce compliment his lyrical style.

I had the opportunity to get into contact with the Vancouver artist over the past week and asked him where his inspiration for his EP “See U In LA” came from. He responded:

“Prior to dropping ‘See U In LA,’ I had been second guessing whether or not I wanted to continue doing music. I was conflicted with feelings of self-doubt and unsure if I was willing to put in the work for a payout that isn’t necessarily promised. It wasn’t until having a conversation with a good friend of mine from LA, a clothing designer by the name of Laina Rauma, that I decided to give it a shot. She mentioned something about being able to see us a couple of years from now at an industry party in LA, then spotting each other from across the room like, “Yo, we made it!” That imagery just stuck with me and was my inspiration to complete and release this project. Putting this EP out is the first step to me ‘seeing her in LA’.”

After giving his 16-minute long EP a listen, I immediately became a fan. Kay’s project gives off smooth Cali vibes with great production and lyrics to tie everything together. Let’s take a moment and remind ourselves that Seth Kay writes AND produces all the tracks on his most recent project. If you’re a fan of Logic or G-Eazy, check out Seth Kay’s project below via SoundCloud or on Spotify.

Show Seth some love on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, too! We hope to see you in Houston soon!

Special shoutout to Amy Singh for introducing me to Seth’s music and Eric Menesse for shedding some light onto this post.
