Rae’s Obsessions of the Week!

Written by on February 7, 2015

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a great week! Friday is usually the day I like to catch up with the world and avoid responsibility for a little bit. I think back to all of the songs that were stuck in my head on the way to class or videos that I saw and fell in love with. With that said, I’d like to share a few of my favorite music related videos that I’ve been obsessing over this week! Take a look!

Sam Smith “Lay Me Down”

Since 2013, I’ve been in a very unhealthy relationship with Sam Smith and his vocals. “Lay Me Down” is the sixth single from his album “In the Lonely Hour” and definitely one of my favorites. For the video, Sam pays tribute to marriage equality and even gets married in a church surrounded by loved ones. He explains the concept of the video on his Facebook page, where he states:

“Dear All…This song holds a very dear place in my heart. With this video myself and Ryan Hope, the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all x”

Lennon & Maisy “Boom Clap”

If you haven’t heard of Lennon & Maisy by now…you’ve probably been living under a rock. BUT NO WORRIES…I GOT YOU. This sister duo has been taking the internet by storm since 2012 with their cover of “Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn & Erato which currently has more than 25 million Youtube views! Lennon & Maisy’s rendition of “Boom Clap” is refreshing and unlike any other. Definitely worth the listen! (If you haven’t yet, check out their “Call Your Girlfriend” cover below!)

Jason French “You Just Want My Money”

I first stumbled upon this song when actor, Darren Criss used it in one of his Vine videos a few weeks ago. Now…hundreds of users have uploaded their 6-second version of “You Just Want My Money” on the Vine app which has helped spread his song throughout the web! Take a listen!

So those were just a few of my favorite things during the first week of February! Comment below and tell us what you’ve been listening to and your weekly obsessions! Also, let me know if you want it to be a weekly thing or to save it for the end of the month! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend!
