Have you ever entered a concert, unsure if you would make it out alive by night’s end? Have you ever taken in a live show with the implicit awareness that the next anticipated song that drops may cause a riot so large it effectively ends your life? These were the tense and anxiety-filled thoughts swirling around my head Friday night as I prepared to enter House of Blues for Travi$ Scott’s Days After Rodeo concert.

Even before Scott made it on stage, the crowd was already buzzing with excitement and energy. The night’s DJ came on stage and played hits from the ’90s and everything after then. Some G.O.O.D. music hits even made it into the DJ’s mix, such as “Don’t Like” by Chief Keef. Almost exactly one hour later, the venue went pitch black in anticipation for Travi$’ arrival. He casually walked onto stage and took of his chains and shirt; the audience knew exactly what that meant. It was time to rage with the one and only Travi$ Scott.

Scott opened with the Owl Pharaoh track “Quintana” and immediately cranked the intensity of House of Blues up to eleven. He climbed on the stage, jumped in the crowd, and gave the hour-and-a-half set his all from beginning to end. He played his biggest hits from Owl Pharaoh and Days Before Rodeo, but his debut album Rodeo was the night’s main focus. From performing the album’s singles “3500” and “Antidote” to the club banger “Nightcrawler,” Scott knew exactly how to entertain this Houston crowd. My personal favorite has always been “Uptown” and Friday night’s performance of the song did not disappoint. I thought the crowd was wild around 8 p.m., but being in the middle of a mosh pit during “Upper Echelon” is an experience so exhilarating that words can’t even do justice.

Travi$ Scott made the first stop on his pop-up tour, Days After Rodeo, one for the books. Houston (rather, Mo City) is his city and will always be his city. Check out the shaky, but accurate, footage from Friday night’s concert below via my personal Instagram account.

Thank you, La Flame.
