The 58th annual Grammy Awards ceremony took place Monday night in Los Angeles. Music’s biggest night featured appearances and performances from some of music’s biggest names—Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, Pitbull and Adele, to name a few.

Only eight Grammys were awarded during the live broadcast—Best Rap Album went to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, Record of the Year was awarded to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and Album of the Year went to Taylor Swift for 1989. Check out some of the ceremony’s highlights below.

Lady Gaga pays tribute to David Bowie
Gaga embodied Bowie as she paid tribute to the late, great singer-songwriter. She performed a medley of his hits, including “Space Oddity” and “Fame,” backed by a dancing keyboard as well as Bowie’s friend and collaborator Nile Rodgers.

Kendrick Lamar makes a statement
After winning five of the 11 awards for which he was nominated, Lamar took to the Grammy stage to perform “The Blacker the Berry,” “Alright,” and an unnamed freestyle. The politically charged performance was pro-Black, powerful and, above all else, thought-provoking.

Ariana Grande introduces The Weeknd with a pun
“How did this next performer land his seven nominations tonight,” Grande said. “Well, ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the pun of the century…he earned it.”
The joke was a hard sell, but The Weeknd’s performance more than made up for it.

Adele returns to the Grammy stage
Adele sang “All I Ask” from her latest album 25. This was her first performance at the Grammys in four years, but the milestone was overshadowed by some sound issues that occurred during her performance, causing her to sound off-key.
