Prince Rogers Nelson, known simply as Prince, died Thursday at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The singer’s death was sudden. He had performed as recently as April 16th and had several projects, including a memoir, in the works. His most recent album, Hit n Run Phase Two, was released earlier this year.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57.” – Yvette Noel-Schure, publicist

Prince was a prolific musician and captivating performer. In his forty years as a recording artist, Prince released more than 30 studio albums and completed 28 concert tours. He also won seven Grammy awards, as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for “Purple Rain”.

Prince was also a fashion icon, bringing a mix of edge and flamboyance to the stage.

Prince will be remembered for more than his chart-topping singles. He inspired a generation to embrace their eccentricities and express themselves without hesitation. And so, with a heavy heart, we say goodbye to a legend, an icon and a pioneer.

“But life is just a party, and parties weren’t meant to last.” – Prince, “1999”
