Concert Review: Flatbush Zombies at Warehouse Live

Written by on May 13, 2016

It is safe to say that the Flatbush Zombies made a comeback this year. In 2013, the trio dominated the scene before drifting into the shadows. Their 2-year hiatus left fans wondering when the group would return. Now that the New York rappers have resurfaced, it only makes sense that fans lined up for their show at the crack of dawn.

I arrived at 7pm. The line was already wrapped around the Warehouse Live venue, but this was only the beginning. The line would continue to grow as fans decked in tie-dye Flatbush shirts chattered with one another about their favorite Flatbush songs.

After waiting for more than an hour, the line finally started to make progress. Fans cheered as we moved at a snail’s pace to get inside. As we inched closer to one another, my section of the line became the best spot ever. The Flatbush Zombies walked out of a side door and rushed past us into their tour bus! Everyone close and quick enough got a snap or two in.

After what seemed like forever, I finally got inside. Yep, this was a Flatbush Zombies concert. The “concert fumes” were starting to brew, and the crowd was ready to have the time of their lives.

Super Jay The DJ warmed everyone up with some turn-up tunes as the crowd waited for The Flatbush Zombies the opening acts. After chanting to A$AP Ferg’s “Work (Remix)” and Young Thug’s “Best Friend”, the crowd was greeted by Queens rapper Remy Banks.

As Banks took the stage, the crowd went wild. The crowd went even more wild when the rapper performed his song “GLDCHN”.

Banks ended his performance with “N1go”, before the crowd began to chant for A$AP Twelvyy.

Everyone continued to anticipate for the rapper while they were teased with a classic hip-hop playlist. The crowd was a good one. They kept it cute and classy while smoking on blunts and quietly jammed the playlist. The crowd would soon get tired of waiting and begin to chant for Flatbush. The lights dimmed, and out would come A$AP Twelvyy.

The beginning of Twelvyy’s performance was clearly just a warm up. Before we knew it, Twelvyy invited his buddy A$AP Ant to the stage. The rappers performed “Thumbin” and ripped off their hoodies. After that, there was no turning back. The A$AP rappers professed their love for Houston’s support on Mother’s Day. They then made a public apology to their mothers for the next song they would perform, “Hella Hoes”. The building was booming with bass from the speakers and from the crowd’s voice.

Everyone began to chant for Flatbush after Twelvyy’s and Ant’s performance. Once again, there was a wait with a classic hip-hop playlist. The crowd learned their lesson earlier, and saved their voices for Flatbush’s appearance. While the hip-hop music played, the screen flashed some killer art of each Flatbush rapper’s face.

After a surprisingly short wait, The Flatbush Zombies finally hit the stage.

You would think the crowd would be tired from all the hooting and hollering they did earlier, but no. I’m surprised my ear drums are still fully functioning.

The rappers started their performance off with a special tribute to rappers we’ve lost. A$AP Yams, Tupac and Pimp C were among the rappers who were honored. It was a touching moment at the concert.

After that, one can say Flatbush’s performance was saturated with songs from their latest album, 3001: A Laced Odyssey. The rappers contained the momentum of the crowd with their never ending energy. With each song, they grew more wild. The crowd loved these guys! By the way, the crowd enjoyed this too.

Houston feened for Flatbush, and desired every minute the group was on stage.
