Written by on September 28, 2016

If you’re first three singles reached the top 5 alternative singles art, you might be Young the Giant. If you perform your songs out in the open for your fans, you might be Young the Giant. If you’re performing both weekends at this year’s ACL Festival, then you’re definitely Young the Giant.

Started in 2004 in Irvine, California by high school friends, The Jakes (their first band name) started out in one of their parent’s garage. The band consists of Sameer Gadhia (lead vocals), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar),Payam Doostzadeh (bass guitar), and Francois Comtois (drums). After most of them graduated high school and went on to prestigious colleges they kept on practicing and playing small gigs until they decided to drop out of school early and focus on the band full-time. It was then in 2009 that they officially changed the band name to Young The Giant and started opening for other bands.

It wasn’t until October 2010 that their first album was released, featuring their top singles “My Body”, “Cough Syrup”, and “Apartment”. This led to them gaining attention from mainstream media and their performance of “My Body” at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

They launched their first headlining tour and continued their shows until they began recording in late 2012 their next album. The first single “It’s About Time” was released and was followed by the release of the full length album, “Mind Over Matter” in early 2014. They began their second headlining tour and began to perform their “In The Open” sessions, where they find random spots outside on their tour and perform their singles acoustically.

It wasn’t just barely a month ago in August 2016 when Young The Giant released their third studio album, “Home Of The Strange”, and subsequently released the first single, “Amerika”. Since then they’ve started their new tour and will be performing both Sunday’s at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival.
