Kamerra Franklin (born June 7, 1987) better known as Kam Franklin, is a Houston hometown hero of sorts. Franklin is widely known as the lead singer for the Houston Gulf Coast Soul Group, The Suffers. Franklin got her start backing up world renowned musicians, as well as dancing for them.

Franklin is known for her “soulful mezzo-soprano vocals,” as well as working with all types of artists ranging from rap, to rock.

Kam Franklin was nominated for the 2008, 2009, and 2011 Houston Press Music Award for Best Female Vocalist, with her  finally winning the award in 2012, and winning again in 2014.

The Suffers, took home The 2012 Houston Press music award for Best New Act, and Best Reggae/Ska/Dub. Franklin won 2014 and 2015 Houston Press Music Award for Local Musician of the Year.
