ACL Artist Spotlight: Tove Lo

Written by on October 11, 2017

Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Lo is coming back to Austin for this year’s ACL festival and you don’t want to miss it. The “Cool Girl” singer has been on tour for her latest album Lady Wood, which is packed with fun, provocative songs.

Nominated for a Grammy and winner of the YouTube Music Award, Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson – also known by her stage name Tove Lo, blew everyone away with her debut studio album Queen of the Cloud in 2014. Her songs “Habits (Stay High)” and “Talking Body” taking over the world in 2015.

The singer has had her hands full since then, writing music and collabing with a handful of artists from every genre. She’s worked with Coldplay, Flume, Nick Jonas, Years & Years, and Wiz Khalifa to name a few and doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Her music has even appeared on big time soundtracks like Fifty Shades Darker with her song “Lies in the Dark”, “Scream My Name” for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,pt 1 and “Seven Lions” with Myon Shane in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Her song “Cool Girl” gives you a better idea of Tove Lo, her carefree, naturally cool girl attitude showing in the music video below.

The singer talks about how she uses writing as her therapy. “Writing the songs is always emotional,” she says. “I use them to deal with my issues.” Lady Wood is full of hypnotic synths and electronic beats over tracks about being brash and bold, and a hardcore feminist album that spits on the idea of being lady like and proper. If you fully immerse yourself into her music, you can tell she’s being completely genuine and relatable.

“My songs are an opportunity to be honest, I use them to deal with my issues.”

Tove Lo for Daily Mail

She’s blunt with her lyrics, and honest about how she feel which makes for a wild ride through her dark pop world. Her music videos are also pretty upfront and don’t waste time painting a glamorous picture, instead taking us through ruggedly adventurous nights full of drugs, sex and impulsive tendencies. You won’t regret being in the crowd both Saturdays as she takes the stage at ACL. Buy tickets here.

Be on the lookout for her upcoming album Blue Lips and listen to her music on iTunes and Spotify
