Starting off as a group of musically talented friends from one coast to the other, The Voidz were spearheaded by Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas. Casablancas, who had played sessions and gigs with Jeff Kite, Alex Carapetis, and Jake Bercovici assembled the group, adding their mutual friends Jeramy “Beardo” Gritter and Amir Yaghmai to the lineup soon after. What is there to say about Julian Casablancas that has not been said before?

The Voidz are definitely not reminiscent of the unique, fine composition of Casablancas’ other projects. Instead, they take unconventional routes and dive into the realm of the experimental. Focusing on beat-driven music, The Voidz make avant-garde palpable to the masses with Casablancas’ signature vocals. At times they have that garage rock revival sound, with tracks such as “Leave It In My Dreams” off their latest album, Virtue. Though, they do venture deep into the strange with the simplistic and trance-like “QYURRYUS” off the same album.

The Voidz want you to dance to their stunning yet strange groove, and the band does a well enough job with their focus on danceable beats. Combined with the harmonious chorus of vocals and guitars, they bring you a new taste of rock while still feeling familiar.

The Voidz will be tearing up the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend at the Wildcatters Network Stage on Saturday between 9:30-10:30 PM. Expect some of the loudest music the band has to offer, as well as what should surely be a spectacular show of lights and sounds.
