ACL Artist Spotlight: The Cure

Written by on August 20, 2019

The Cure to your summertime blues has arrived! Even after 40 years as a band, The Cure continues to perform to stadiums today, so it should come as no surprise to see them headlining Austin City Limits this October.

The English goth-rockers were birthed from the 70s post-punk and new wave scene, rising to worldwide prominence with 1987’s Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss MeAfter hits like “Friday I’m In Love,” “Just Like Heaven,” and Lovesong,” the world was hooked. Through a plethora of lineup changes, the band has continued to evolve while still holding the perfect balance of pop-rock and experimental synths under Robert Smith’s moody lyrics.

By the end of 2019, the band will have completed their fourteenth studio album. With any luck, Texas may get to hear some of the new songs during their Austin City Limits set. They will be performing during both weekends (October 4–6 and 11–13) at Zilker Park in the heart of Austin.

As an older band from across the pond, they don’t tour as heavily as some of their contemporaries. Good luck seeing your favorite English band in the U.S. too often; The Cure hasn’t been in Houston since 2016. This Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee is a living legend of an act. Like Paul McCartney or Elton John, it’d a crime to not go out of your way to see them at least once.

Seeing as the band is older and not from the states, I suggest taking the opportunity ACL is offering to see them now, along with come of the other greats of our time. Think about it. You’re likely to pay what you would for floor seats at the Toyota Center for a 3-Day weekend pass.

Buy your tickets soon, as Weekend 1’s 3 day passses have already sold out!
