Bayou Fem Fest Celebrates Women Artists in Houston

Written by on September 28, 2019

Bayou Fem Fest held its second annual ‘Clam Jam,’ benefitting Houston Area Women’s Center and showcasing female artists while fostering a community of creativity in Houston. The event held at Avant Garden had 12 original singer-songwriters, 3 stages, great food, and a variety of local woman-owned vendors. Truly an event where we could celebrate women in all aspects, Clam Jam brought together a wonderful community of diverse women in Houston. Check out some of our highlights from this year’s festival!

Brooke Alexx

by Travis Rasch

Brooke Alexx is a young synth-pop artist out of Nashville, Tennesse. With bold energy and a vivid aesthetic, she immediately grabbed the audience’s attention. With influences like Tove Stryke and Charli XCX, Brooke definitely feeds into a young audience’s craving for fresh bedroom pop. Playing a great set with her original music, Brooke’s voice was just as bold as the energy she brought. With killer vocals, clever lyrics, and a unique style Brooke Alexx stood out as one of my favorite sets of the night. Check out her Instagram and click here to listen to her latest EP “Me.”

Kristal Cherelle

by Travis Rasch

Kristal Cherelle is a Houston singer-songwriter who blew me away with her vibrant set. With a keyboard and guitar adding to her R&B beats, Cherelle’s voice flowed beautifully and effortlessly. She reminded of SZA and H.E.R., and I was definitely vibing with her beautiful music and beautiful energy she had to match that. Check out Cherelle’s music by clicking here, and be sure to follow her on Instagram. A practiced songwriter and musician, Cherelle also provides music lessons. Definitely a local artist that deserved to be highlighted, I’m so glad Fem Fest put Kristal Cherelle on my radar.

Mary Moore

by Travis Rasch

Mary Moore is a soulful singer with a natural talent for music. She blends pop, soul, and folk into her own unique style tied together with her stellar guitar skills and earthy image. Her set topped off a great night of talent, as she connected deeply with her listeners and provided really vulnerable insight on some of the personal lyrics behind her songs. Her authenticity and passion is rare to find among young artists today, and she left me feeling so refreshed and inspired by her fantastic set. Click here to listen to Mary’s music and follow her on Instagram.
