EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED: Taylor Swift Makes History with Rerelease of Red

Written by on November 22, 2021

At the start of her career, Swift signed to Big Machine Records. When record executive and celebrity manager Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato) acquired Big Machine, Swift’s works from 2006 to 2017 were sold to Shamrock Holdings without her knowledge. After signing with Republic in 2018, Swift’s new label allowed her to own all the rights to her masters.

Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself “Hey isn’t this easy?”

In April, the artist rereleased her second studio album Fearless, which also included six new, unreleased tracks. Taylor’s version became No.1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

This is a state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight.

Last week (Nov. 12), Swift rereleased her fourth studio album Red and broke two Spotify records the day of its release. “Red (Taylor’s Version)” became the most-streamed album by a woman. This also made her the most-streamed female artist in a day in Spotify history.

Fans seem to be excited about the ending track, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and her song with Phoebe Bridgers, “Nothing New”.

Swift directed a short film for her 10 minute version of ATW, which explains “his” and “her” story in detail. The film continues to trend at No. 1 on YouTube. It stars Dylan O’Brien as “him” and Sadie Sink as “her”. Swift comes in the film as “her” 13 years later. Fans continue to theorize about her lyrics, and believe the song is about Jake Gyllenhaal. The 10 minute heartbreak anthem is at 31 million streams, her most popular song among Spotify listeners. The short film was not the only debut after the release; Swift’s good friend Blake Lively made her directing debut on Tuesday.

And I bet you think about me.

The actress directed “I Bet You Think About Me” , which is trending at No. 2 on YouTube. The music video stars the singer and Miles Teller and shows Swift crashing a wedding. (Side note: Is Blake Lively the “actress” Taylor refers to in the fourth verse of ATW?)

When she decided to rerecord Red, the songstress wanted to make “Nothing New” into a duet. The track became No. 6 on the U.S. Spotify chart, giving it 1.2 million streams.

I remember it all too well.

Ten years later, the album is still impactful. With Swift’s now mature vocals and new tracks, she continues to outdo herself. The Red (Taylor’s Version) era will definitely be one of the biggest moments of her career. With her new partnership with Starbucks, countless streams, and making historic moves for women and the music industry, we have seen groundbreaking commercial success. With Red being a fan favorite and “All Too Well” commonly considered as her best song, her next move is unpredictable. Swift once again proves herself as one of the biggest pop sensations.

Which album should she redo next?
