Milky Chance Returns to the House of Blues this December

Written by on November 2, 2021

Milky Chance is an Indie-Rock band hailing from the streets of Germany. The band formed in 2012 and consists of lead vocalist Clemens Rehbein, bassist/percussionist Philipp Dausch, and guitarist Antonio Greger. They are known for blending their folk, electronic and alternative influences to create their own nonchalant indie sound.

In 2013, Milky Chance began to post their new songs and videos on Youtube, where eventually one of the tracks (“Stolen Dance”) achieved viral success with over 730 million views as of today. Their debut album, Sadnecessary, was released worldwide in 2014 which was, without a doubt, one of the most amazing albums released at that time. It featured other amazing bangers, like the beautifully dynamic “Flashed Junk Mind” and the progressive title-track “Sadnecessary.” Sadneccesary has a lot of Milky Chance’s best songs overall, one of them being the lively “Sweet Sun.” This relatively unique and fast song captures their musical essence and contains a vibrant energy that will make anyone want to dance.

After a successful Sadneccesary worldwide tour that lasted almost two years, Milky Chance began working on their second album, Blossom, which takes their mellow yet complex sound to the next level. While some tracks like “Heartless” seem more notable than others, there are plenty of tracks that stand out and show how Milky Chance literally blossomed into their sound. This can be heard throughout, in songs such as the lighthearted “Bad Things,” featuring the incredible Izzy Bizu, and the funkadelic “Doing Good.” Blossom is the epitome of their consistent song progression, showing that they are more than just a one-hit wonder.

Milky Chance returned with their third album Mind the Moon at the end of 2019, which once again reinvented their sound to fit a more electric feel. The band further experimented with artist collaborations; we hear the talented Tash Sultana in “Daydreaming” and the legendary choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo in the soothing “Eden’s House.” Milky Chance is more focused on the instrumentation than the lyrical content, as they incorporate more external sounds like jazz and reggae. While Mind the Moon is very far from reaching the astonishing status of its predecessors, there is definitely a song here for everyone.

Milky Chance will be heading out on the North American Mind the Moon Tour starting at the end of November in Chicago. The band will be making their way down to the House of Blues in Houston on December 10th (though this performance was originally scheduled for March 30th, 2020) with German indie band Giant Rooks serving as openers. Make sure to buy your tickets here, so you have the opportunity to listen to Milky Chance live.
