Dua Lipa: Future Nostalgia Tour

Written by on February 28, 2022

With much anticipation, British artist Dua Lipa and the Future Nostalgia tour will be making a stop in our city.

From her start on YouTube at 14 and becoming a model at 16 to the women she is now — a three-time Grammy award winning and critically acclaimed singer/songwriter — it is apparent that no matter what barriers you put in front of her, Dua Lipa will always break through them. The versatility of her music makes her a force to be reckoned with in the pop scene. The combinations of her velvety distinct voice and the influences of disco, tropical house, and R&B in her music is infectious and what sets her apart from other artists.

After her covers were discovered by TAP music, the British artist rose to fame in 2014 after signing with Warner Brother Record UK.  Although it wasn’t until 2017 when she released herself titled debut album, Dua Lipa, which was the precursor to her honing in on her sound and sharing it with the world. The album was full of upbeat melodies, girl power, heartbreak, and self-love — and includes a feature with Miguel on “Lost In Your Light”. After the release of the album, it was certified Platinum in several counties worldwide, reached number 6 in the United States, and won Dua Lipa two Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough act in 2018.

With all the success of her first album she continued pushing out more music, including one with Calvin Harris on their track “One Kiss”. The song reached number one in the UK that same year, and was considered the longest running number one single by a female artist and received accolades from NRJ Music Awards, ACUM Awards, and the Brit Awards.

In 2018 she also released her feature on “Electricity” with Silk City, the Chicago house track including disco house, diva house, and electropop. The song encompasses the feeling of a love so electric it feels like it can consume you. The next year in 2019, they won a Brit Award for Song of the Year, a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, and Dua Lipa won a Grammy for Best New Artist. Little did we know, the elements that made up this track would foreshadow a new side of Dua Lipa’s sound.

It wasn’t until the next year in 2020, when the pandemic hit and the world came to a halt, that she decided to take the risk and release her second album Future Nostalgia. By following her intuition it was a risk worth taking, landing Dua Lipa 6 grammy nominations, number one album in the UK and recognition from rolling stone naming her, the Break Out Pop Star of the pandemic era.

Her sophomore album takes you back in time with the retro-electro pop influences that showcases the limitless of her music while paying homage to the sound of her debut album. This album was a caveat in the pop scene and a pivotal moment in her career.

Future Nostalgia (The Moonlight Edition) is filled with tracks that you can’t help yourself from dancing to. From hit singles “Physical”, “Don’t Start Now”, “Hallucinate”, “Love Again”, “Break My Heart” and Miley Cyrus’s “Prisoner” feat. Dua Lipa, including features with JID on “Not My Problem”, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Tainy on “Un Dia (One Day)”, and Angele on “Fever”, you are bound to escape into a new world of pop.
