Lacy has a video with TEDx Teen, where he talks about his process of figuring out his recording process. He explains that when he first started out, he was placed in a recording studio room surrounded by recording equipment. However, he states that he ended up making his first ever solo project, Steve Lacy’s Demo – EP on his phone with GarageBand. Lacy ends the talk with, “I didn’t need what I thought I did. That’s what I like to call the bare maximum.”

Steve Lacy is a huge inspiration for young music artists across the nation that think they need the best equipment to record their own music, but that is not always the case. It’s the producer behind the equipment that helps makes the music great. You don’t need the best equipment; you can work with what’s within your reach and make the next big thing! Once again, Steve Lacy is serving as a prime example of this method!
