Songs on Repeat (Mini Playlist)

Written by on October 13, 2022

Throughout the year, I have expanded my musical range on what I listen to and formed a particular fondness for Indie music. It is refreshing to find artists with so much potential,  that create music solely based on their artistic vision. I typically focus on how artists blend their focal message through songwriting and production. Here are the top picks of my Songs on Repeat (Mini Playlist):

“Harmless Fun” – Belot

One of my most recent finds, “Harmless Fun” is truly so catchy! It is well produced with an eloquent use of rhythmic vocals combined with its recurring melodic theme. While it is a short song, at 2:12, it leaves you wanting more, so much so, I have it on repeat too. If you enjoyed this song as much as I did, I’d totally suggest you listen to Belot’s EP!

“Saturday – Ódú

With a truly melancholic feeling embellished in the songwriting and production, “Saturday” is a song that caught my attention quickly. It has a perfect blend for you to feel the focal message of the song. While not the happiest song, it really showcases its self-reflection. Ódú utilizes her vocals perfectly to reflect her frustration and hopelessness in her relationship with her significant other. In her lyrics she expresses that she is wanting to spend time with her significant other, but is unsure if it is truly the right decision. This song is expressed beautifully and is also a constant repeat!

Miss Understood” – HYRA

HYRA excels at creating such a fun and intriguing emotion with her impressive vocals and the utilization of background vocals and production. “Miss Understood” is a fun song with a deep meaning. In the song, HYRA expresses her difficulty with trying to be her true self without having to hide behind a persona. Her song title plays with that idea, as it can be interpreted that her persona is Miss Understood, and her true self is misunderstood. Another one on repeat constantly!

“BEEN HIGH” – Amber Ryann

With catchy melodic and rhythmic use of her vocals and stellar use of production “BEEN HIGH” is addicting to listen to. In the song Amber expresses her success and how others want to bring her down, but they are not worth her time as she is doing what she wants. She showcases this nonchalant attitude within the delivery of her lyrics which adds to the empowering message of “BEEN HIGH”. It is so easy to put this song on repeat! Amber has such a captivating voice and her being able to use it in such an artistic way is truly inspiring!

“Sanctuary” – Laica

“Sanctuary” is one of my all-time favorite songs! The melody and vocal overlapping within the song add a comforting tone with a bittersweet message. In the song, Laica talks about dealing with mental health and struggling to stay positive for others as she reminisces on the people she misses. Slowly, she is losing hope of getting better and is trying to find a sanctuary in the memories she holds of the people she misses. The context of the lyrical message of the song, the voice overlapping, and the background vocals add so much to the reminiscent and longing emotions within the song. This is the top song that I put on repeat!

I hope you give these songs a listen and I look forward to seeing more releases from all these wonderful artists!
