Throwback Thursday: DMX, Outkast, and Warren G

Written by on August 8, 2013

Throwback Thursday is a (hopefully) weekly column bringing you some “old school” music every Thursday. It is designed to enlighten the young, please our target demographic, and make the old feel even older.

Summer is so ill timed, especially in Texas. The one span of the year where you have the most time for fun activities is severely crippled by the massive 150 degree heat of summer.  Spending an hour in traffic coming to and from school makes that heat so much worse (my commuters can feel me).  So as I sit inside with my fan on full blast, drinking a tall glass of iced tea, I bring you Throwback Thursday.

From the “is this really old school now? I’m so f-n old” file, DMX’s Slippin is perhaps his most mellow single to date. Well, it’s as mellow as a song can get whilst still incorporating dog barking. DMX has had some legal troubles throughout his life (DUI, dog fighting, DUI, drugs, DUI, DUI, DUI…), but let’s hope that he’ll get back to classic form.

More after the jump.

From all the way back in 2000, Outkast’s Stankonia is basically all killer. The album put them on the map, at least in this millenium, and . While I’m partial to B.o.B., most will remember their classic Ms. Jackson:

Outkast – Ms. Jackson

Finally, I will go out on a limb. Nate Dogg is the best hook man ever. Period. No discussion. You know what song is next.

Warren G (featuring Nate Dogg) – Regulate

Have a recommendation for Throwback Thursday? Leave a comment or e-mail it to [email protected]. Don’t make me regulate.
