Record Store Day 2K15

Written by on April 17, 2015

Vinyl lovers rejoice! Our Christmas is here! This Saturday record stores across the nation will be participating in the annual Record Store Day. Now, you’re probably asking what this is, and if you do know what this is, you’re asking why this isn’t every day. Record Store Day is when Record Stores across the nation give out special releases and other goodies that you can’t get anywhere else but this day.

Past RSD’s for me have always been nothing less than awesome! Tons of people cram into all of these record stores that normally resemble public libraries full of hipsters. It’s a huge day for the store owners and customers, alike. In the  past my acquisitions have included Toro y Moi’s June 2009 album all on individual 7″ vinyl! I also got the impossible to listen to correctly Flaming Lips album Zaireeka which is meant to be played on four separate record players. This is consumerism at its finest people!

Here’s a list of Stores participating along with addresses and working hours the day of (All information was taken from the respective stores website):

Heights Vinyl – 3122 White Oak Dr., Houston, TX 77008 (281) 974 1234 Open: 11AM-10PM

Allrecords – 3211 Edloe St., Houston, TX,77056 (713) 524 4900 Open: 11AM-6PM

Sound Revolution – 1312 FM 1960 W, Houston, TX 77090 (281) 444 5454 Open: 8AM-9PM

Soundwaves – 3509 Montrose, Houston, TX 77006 (713) 520 9283 Open: 10AM-9PM

Vinal Edge – 239 W. 19th St., Houston, TX 77008 (832) 618 1129 Open: 10AM-7PM

Sound Exchange – 1846 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX 77098 (713) 666 5555 Open: 11AM-7PM

Cactus Music – 2110 Portsmouth, Houston, TX 77098 (713) 526 9272 Open: 9AM-10PM

Sig’s Lagoon – 3622 Main (Suite E), Houston, TX 77002 (713) 533 9525 Open:11AM-10PM

Black Dog Records – 4900 Bissonnet #102, Bellaire, TX (713) 522 6001 Open: 11AM-6PM

That’s a lot of vinyl to dig through! So my recommendation to those RSD noobs is to hit up Cactus Music first, then Sig’s Lagoon (voted the best record store in 2014 by the Houston Press), and finish it all off with Vinal Edge in the Heights.

I personally have not visited all of these stores before, but I’m sure goimg try and cross some of these off of my list. Soundwaves and Sound Revolution also sell apparel. Soundwaves has a ton of surfing gear, and Sound Revolution carries skate clothes and E-Cig products. And since there is no possible way I can list all of the special releases that could be coming to these stores (it’s kind of a toss up what they get, stores say they are participating and the RSD people send them all the goods) so instead, I’m just going to post a link, you can always call and see if one of these places has your must have item. Now, some of these hours will most likely be extended, as I just pulled these off websites and didn’t call but two. Also, be there early, this is like the Black Friday of Music, it ain’t no joke!
