Artist Spotlight: 2Fly
Written by Coog Radio on June 22, 2015
Looking for a new artist to add to your summer playlist? Look no further than to Dallas’ very own 2Fly, the newest and upcoming face of the rap game. I was fortunate enough to speak with 2Fly and get some inside scoop about his life and upcoming project, Level Up.
From Houston, Texas, 2Fly moved to Dallas with his mother for better opportunities. The rapper’s main music inspirations are Michael Jackson and Lil’ Wayne, but hearing 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (specifically “I’ll Whip Ya Head Boy”) inspired him to begin rapping. At the young age of 13, 2Fly was part of a group who didn’t see his true talent and the artist realized that, in order to reach his full potential, going solo was the best option.
At a performance for his high school talent show in 2012, 2Fly knew he was born to make music and began taking his music career more seriously. His music is influenced by artists such as M.I.A. and Bob Marley, whose music he thoroughly enjoys. Over the past few years, 2Fly has performed all over the city of Dallas and opened up for artists like Lil’ Bibby and Lil’ Herb.
Working on three projects at once, he says Level Up is the first project he will release for his listeners. With over 50 songs recorded for all three projects combined, 2Fly made the difficult decision to narrow down his upcoming EP to just eight tracks and claims that “[we’ve] never heard anything like this” and “[we] can expect big things from Level Up.”
In the meantime, check out the music video for his newly released single “Lean & Liquor” below!
Make sure to stay updated with everything 2Fly is up to by showing him some love on Twitter and SoundCloud.
