ACL Artist Spotlight: The Chainsmokers
Written by Coog Radio on September 21, 2016
You first officially heard from them with the 2012 hit single, “#Selfie”, but 4 years later they have taken over the charts and are set to be headline performers at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival.
The Chainsmokers are a DJ duo from New York City, made up of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. In their own words “They each graduated from prestigious North-Eastern Universities, they like hot chicks in yoga pants, enjoy a good burger, and have been rejected from many of the venues they now play at.” Although it’s unclear on how they met we at least know that they began performing at EDM festivals and skyrocketed when their first single, #Selfie, blew up in early 2014. Since then, they’ve put out a lot of new songs in collaboration with other artists, most of them becoming chart toppers.
In August of 2014 they released “Kanye”, followed by “Let You Go” ft. Great Good Fine Ok. Then, finally, their first EP Bouquet was released in October 2015, which included the tracks “Roses” and ,in February, the single “Don’t Let Me Down” ft. Daya, both which became hits. They have moved since then from New York City to Los Angeles,
This past year, they have completely taken over the chart with those two songs and ever since July, with their hit “Closer” featuring Halsey. Aside from that, they have put out many remixes of popular songs that have made them EDM rockstars. Now, they’re set to come to Austin, Texas on the weekends of September 2-October 2 and October 7-9 for the Austin City Limits festival to headline on both Saturday nights.
