Local Concert Alert: Open Mike Eagle
Written by Waylon ODay on September 16, 2017
Equal parts wit and social consciousness make-up the enigmatic presence of one Open Mike Eagle. Member of the Project Blowed collective out of California, Open Mike Eagle could’ve just as easily been a stand-up comedian, as evidenced by tracks such as “Doug Stamper,” which features my favorite comedian, Hannibal Buress, who happens to be one of Eagle’s close acquaintances. Couple that with the April announcement that Eagle along with comedian Baron Vaughn would host a music-comedy hybrid show on Comedy Central, entitled “New Negroes,” it’s hard not to give the man due’s for his art.
The self-proclaimed “art rapper” will be bringing his unique brand of hip-hop to Houston tonight at The Secret Group, an apt venue considering the club’s long history of being the spot in Houston to catch a comedy show. This is not a show that you want to miss, be sure to buy tickets, and experience this one-of-a-kind alternative rap artist’s exciting hilarious performance.
The Secret Group: 2101 Polk St., Houston, Texas, 77003
