After going from a recent high school grad to an alternative pop superstar over the past year, Khalid has become a household name for his soulful ballads and relatable pop tunes about young love and growing up young in America. Khalid’s rise into the spotlight comes largely on the back of his incredibly successful single “Location” which has since gone platinum and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Top 200. This song highlights the increasing role that technology plays in modern relationships. Although this may be his most popular song, Khalid has a plethora of beautiful masterpieces in his arsenal as he is one of the most consistent new artists of 2017.

Khalid was formally introduced to the world in March of 2017 upon the release of his debut album American Teen. His debut album immediately acquired commercial and critical success as American Teen peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Top 200. Khalid’s commercial success comes largely from his ability to consistently create music that is incredibly relatable to the younger generation. His relatability comes largely from him being only 19 himself which allows him to make music about topics that he finds to be important in his life, such as the confusion of growing up and finding love, as he experiences them himself. Khalid shines on topics important to him and so many others such as being a young, broke, and confused eighteen-year-old trying to find his way in the world on songs such as “Young, Dumb, and Broke” and “8TEEN”. Khalid also has an innate ability to express his feelings of young love and heartbreak in songs such as “Location” and “Saved”.

Khalid’s mixture of storytelling and a mature sound generates one beautiful masterpiece after another and he should be a strong player in the music industry for many years to come.
