River City Rockfest Artist Spotlight: Stone Temple Pilots

STP is more than just an automotive brand specializing in motor oil and aftermarket parts, it’s also an acronym for one of the most popular grunge bands of the 1990’s. The Stone Temple Pilots are based out of San Diego, California, originally consisting of vocalist Scott Weiland, bassist Robert DeLeo, his brother, Dean DeLeo on guitar and Eric Kretz on drums. With the passing of original front man Scott Weiland, the band now headlines with Jeff Gutt, who does a great job of filling the void left by Scott. Despite their booming during the height of the grunge movement the band differs from other grunge bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, their music instead being showcased by genres such as Hard Rock and Alternative Metal.
The band has released seven studio albums to date, the latter two featuring Jeff Gutt at the helm. Their two most popular albums are 1992’s Core and 1994’s Purple, both of which encompass the band’s most popular songs, some of which include “Big Empty,” “Dead and Bloated,” “Interstate Love Song” and “Vasoline.”
