Wavves Crashed at Satellite Bar

Written by on October 26, 2018

On Sunday, October 21, Wavves stopped by Satellite Bar as part of their current “I Love You” tour. Accompanied by A Giant Dog and Brother Sports, the night was wild to say the least.

Named after singer-songwriter Nathan Williams’, fear of the ocean, Wavves was conceived in 2008 in the sunny city of San Diego, California. Current members consist of, Alex Gates on guitar, Stephen Pope on Bass, and Brian Hill on drums, and of course Williams.

The band can be considered anything from indie rock, pop punk, noise pop or beach goth. Many of their songs revolve around the subjects of weed, boredom, the beach or the gloomy culture of goth rock culture. Sunny melodies are juxtaposed with distorted lyrics to make up most of the band’s bangers.

During the show, the guys experienced some technical difficulties when it came to sound, this didn’t stop them though. After a large gulp of wine, Williams continued to sing the lyrics while the crowd sang along. The mosh pit continued as the crowd was determined to keep the night alive.

Like most shows, screeches and shouts of “encore” bellowed from the crowd. Exhausted from the set, the band left the stage, which left the fans unsettled and wanting more. Apparently some fans left angrier than others, as Williams tweeted on Monday that the band had received death threats after the show for not performing an encore.
