Artist Spotlight: King Princess
Written by Rianne Akindele on October 1, 2019
Mikaela Straus, popularly known as King Princess, is a 20-year old singer, songwriter, producer from Brooklyn, New York. Growing up, Straus was surrounded by music, so it’s no wonder she decided to briefly study music in college before leaving to focus on her career. If you follow the young and proudly queer artist on social media, you’ll find that they’re extremely open. KP shares all aspects of life from the mundane of sitting on the toilet to dancing with friends to show prep. Listening to King Princess’ music you’ll find raspy vocals telling stories of love in its forms of adoration, manipulation, and yearning. Having signed to Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records, an imprint of Columbia Records, fans been hitting KP with an onslaught of “Where’s the album?” for months now. For fun, King Princess has released remixes of pop culture soundbites into songs like the iconic “We were rooting for you!” Tyra Banks quote in America’s Next Top Model.
